In the final blog of 2015, we talked about the biggest stories of the year from our industry. Those stories included increased reshoring efforts, a drastic increase in warehousing needs, logistics security threats, the steady rise of e-commerce, and the driver shortage.

We at On Time Logistics see that all these issues will continue growing, which presents both challenges and opportunities. As e-commerce grows, we see that forcing the need for more warehousing space. Warehouse space is already at a premium, from China to right here in Northwest Arkansas. Increasing warehouse shortage means we will have to see existing space retrofitted to warehouse use (not as likely), or warehouses will need to be constructed.

The increase in onshoring, e-commerce, and warehousing naturally means the need to adapt logistical plans. Qualified, dependable truck drivers are needed more now than ever, but there’s a classic supply and demand problem with that.

Instead of hiring more truck drivers, the transportation industry is seeing a high turnover rate and an even higher rate of drivers aging out of the system. Over-the-road drivers are even more difficult to hire, according to reports. Companies across the industry are working to incentivize drivers to solve the growing truck driver shortage problem.

We at On Time Logistics are fortunate in that we can offer our truck drivers short routes, with no overnight trips away from their families. Our drivers are also contract workers, meaning they have a flexible schedule.

Are you looking for a new career? Or perhaps you’re retired but don’t want to leave the workforce entirely. Contact us today to learn more about the benefits of being a truck driver at On Time Logistics.
