Students at Holcomb Elementary in Fayetteville love their new bikes!
Do you remember the days when most neighborhood kids had bikes? We would play until dark and got a lot of exercise pedaling around the neighborhood.
Our team at On Time Logistics cares a lot about families and about fitness. In fact, our owner Steve Jones is a biking aficionado and you might notice we as a company tend to sponsor community events related to bikes as much as we can.
Our On Time Logistics team is thrilled to be a part of a major initiative with the Fayetteville Public Schools called Bike Ed. The program targeted grades 3-5 over the last few years and now it will expand to serve students in grades 3-12. The Bike Ed curriculum includes teaching students about bike and trail safety, as well as shares about the main biking opportunities available in the Northwest Arkansas community. How great is that?
We love a good pep rally! The students and teachers are so excited to receive their bikes.
So how are we involved? Thanks to The Walton Family Foundation, the Endeavor Foundation, and the Fayetteville Public Education Foundation, every school will have a set of student and teacher bikes for use in PE class – a total of 520 bicycles in all. We are local experts in logistics and white glove service so it made sense for us to volunteer to help deliver these bikes to the schools.
Steve says so far the kids seem to really enjoy the bikes.
Many kids don’t learn how to ride bikes at home. Instead, they learn at school.
When he went to the first school, Holcomb Elementary School, the principal told him that many kids now learn to ride a bike at school instead of home. We are so honored to be a part of making that learning possible. Not only on these kids learning to ride bikes, but studies show that kids who lead healthy, active lives can achieve better learning in the classroom.
